The Lunar DSGS Program
General information
What is DSGS?
This is the Demand Side Grid Support program from the California Energy Commission (CEC). This program pays you to support the grid at times of high demand from May through October.
What is Lunar’s role?
Lunar uses our proprietary VPP software to aggregate and dispatch energy from your Lunar System when the grid needs it. We then compensate you for your participation.
How much could I earn from participating in the 2025 DSGS Program?
You could earn up to $450 if you have a 20kWh Lunar System, or up to $400 if you have a 15 kWh Lunar System.
How many times will my Lunar System be used for the DSGS Program?
There will be a maximum of 35 DSGS events in 2025 between May and October. These will be between 1-2 hours long, and will occur between 4-9pm. We may need to run some system tests before and during the season to check things are working as expected.
Will my utility bill increase if I participate in the Lunar DSGS Program?
Your bill may increase by a small amount, but we anticipate any increase to be easily offset by your payments for DSGS participation. Our proprietary Lunar AI battery control software aims to minimize any utility bill increases while participating in DSGS.
Is my Lunar System eligible?
You will be eligible if you are in PG&E’s service territory, have permission to operate, and you are not receiving any other incentives or VPP revenues for your Lunar System. Further details can be found at https://dsgs.olivineinc.com/
Where can I find the terms and conditions for the Lunar DSGS program?
The terms and conditions are available on our website.
Signing up
How do I sign up?
Signing up is easy directly in the Lunar App.
Can multiple people in my household sign up?
Your Lunar System can only be enrolled in the DSGS program once per household. The person who enrolls must be the utility bill payer or have the permission of the utility bill payer to sign up, and must be over 18 years of age.
How will I know if my sign up was successful?
Once you’ve provided your enrollment information in the Lunar App, we will review your application and submit your details to the CEC to register your participation. This enrollment happens once a month. We’ll let you know when your enrollment has been confirmed, or if there are any issues with the details you’ve provided.
If I sign up this year, am I automatically enrolled for DSGS in 2026?
No, you’ll need to sign up each year.
Can I unenroll?
Yes, you can unenroll if you want to, but you won’t accrue any more VPP revenue from that point onward, and can’t sign up again until 2026.
What happens to the enrollment data I provide?
Please see our privacy policy.
What information do I need to sign up, and where can I find it?
The Lunar App will walk you through the information you need to provide.
Event Information and Participation
How many times will my Lunar System be used for the Lunar DSGS Program?
There are a maximum of 35 events for the 2025 season, with a minimum of one event per month. We may also need to run some system tests before and during the season to check things are working as expected.
When will DSGS events happen?
DSGS events are triggered when demand for electricity on the grid is particularly high. In more detail, the triggers are based on the wholesale electricity surpassing a pre-defined threshold.
What should I expect my Lunar System to do before and during a DSGS event?
Your battery will charge up prior to the event (to maximize your output and payment) then discharge down to your backup reserve during the event. Following the event, your battery will return to its normal operation.
Can I opt out of an event if I don't want my battery to participate?
Yes, you can opt out of an event up to 3 hours before it starts. Opting out will reduce the amount of money you earn.
Can I adjust my battery reserve if I’m participating in DSGS?
Yes, you can adjust your battery reserve at any time up to 3 hours before an event, and after each event has finished. A higher battery reserve will lower your earnings.
Can I change my battery mode if I’m enrolled in DSGS?
No, your Lunar System must be in Lunar AI mode for the duration of the DSGS Program. This is to ensure that Lunar can keep your utility bill down while also earning you VPP revenue.
How will I know when the 2025 Lunar DSGS Program is finished?
The program stops at the end of October. The Lunar App will contain details explaining when the program has finished.
Performance and Payment
How is my payment calculated?
In exchange for your participation in the Lunar DSGS program, you will receive payments based on the power (in kilowatts) provided during events, multiplied by the incentive given in the table below, and weighted by the wholesale cost of energy during the event.

How and when do I get paid?
You will be paid once per month by our payment partner.
How do I know how much energy I’ve contributed to the VPP, and how much I’m owed?
The Lunar App will show a record of your participation and will update monthly to show how much money you’ve earned.
What happens if my payment doesn’t show up, or I think my earnings are incorrect?
Please contact Lunar at vppsupport@lunarenergy.com.
I have a question about my utility bill, can you help?
Please consult your electricity provider for any questions about your utility bill.
